Door Hanger, Just Doing It and Making a Baby

Back in October, I gave nascency to my newest little man!  Aye, Mr. Brayden Patrick arrived correct on schedule, joining his older brother, Rowan, and completing our family.

Since I'chiliad a crafty gal who is obsessed with all things DIY, especially making my own wreaths and door hangers (see my Projection Gallery for proof), I of course just had to make something to adorn the door of Brayden'due south room.  However, I also wanted it to hang on our hospital room door while we recovered AND display all of the important birth stats from Brayden'south big day.

Go on reading for all the details on his personalized newborn babe door hanger that worked great for the hospital AND still does now that we're dwelling!

Painting the Babe Door Hanger

I spotted a blank wooden (MDF really) onesie on Zulily one day when I was still in my first trimester, so I grabbed ane.  We however didn't know if nosotros were having a boy or a girl yet and so the details of what I would do with information technology were TBD, but I knew it would brand the cutest door hanger, both for the hospital and Infant #two's nursery at domicile.

Once we constitute out nosotros were having another male child (yay!) and finally agreed upon a proper noun (hallelujah!), I fabricated a mockup of the design in Silhouette Studio so got my craft on.

To go along things coordinated, I painted the onesie with the same navy indoor pigment that nosotros used on ane of the walls in Brayden'due south room (look for a postal service on the complete plant nursery reveal soon!).  It took a few coats to get nice, even coverage thanks to information technology being MDF.

Adding the Vinyl

Since I'm completely obsessed with my Silhouette Cameo, I used it to cut out all of the vinyl elements.  The offset things to get practical were the white stitches that went around the edge.

Next, I layered the orangish and white vinyl name pieces onto each other (although it's actually hard to see the white parts hither, simply trust me, they're in that location!).  And in instance y'all're wondering, the font I used for his name is called Frost.

[For full details on this process, check out my tutorial on how to layer vinyl!]

The combined name piece was then added onto the onesie.  Ii strips of some orange ribbon were and then glued on to make beautiful suspenders and white buttons were added to the bottom of each.  The final step of the bodily onesie was calculation a bow necktie.

I offset tried to DIY one, but after multiple failed attempts (lawd, how I hate making bows), I eventually gave up and just raided my older son's closet.  The cute lite blue bow tie that Rowan wore on his very first mean solar day of school was sacrificed for this project.  But don't worry!  He has plenty of bow ties in his wardrobe, so this ane won't exist missed.

The Birth Stats Plaque

The onesie was basically finished now, so it was onto the plaque that Brayden'south nativity stats would be added to afterward his big arrival.  Later all, anybody wants to know all the details about a little one's big twenty-four hours.

I used the same kind of board that worked smashing for Rowan's ghostly keepsake Halloween footprint plaque a few years ago, and it was the perfect size for this project likewise.

I spray painted it white, and in one case the vinyl was practical (the navy letters are in American Typewriter), I attached the board to the onesie with a couple more strips of orange ribbon and then it was hanging off the lesser.  That mode it wouldn't cover upward whatsoever of the onesie, and with a couple snips of a pair of scissors, the lath can easily be saved in Brayden's baby box long subsequently he'southward moved across the door hanger.

Since I plain wouldn't be able to take my Silhouette to the hospital (*sniff*), I would be forced to just handwrite Brayden's stats onto the lath with an orangish Sharpie instead of using vinyl.  Say it ain't so!!  This fabricated the perfectionist in me quite distressing, but I got over it every bit soon as my epidural wore off.

Brayden's Completed Personalized Newborn Baby Door Hanger!

And hither's Brayden'southward completed infant door hanger!  Isn't it simply the cutest??  To hang it, my husband drilled a couple pocket-size holes at the top and we threaded some picture show hanging wire through.  This thing is quite heavy, so some of my normal twine wouldn't be upwards to the task.

I am so thrilled with how this turned out!  Plus, I loved existence able to display information technology and all of Brayden'south nascence stats on our hospital room door (fifty-fifty with my extra terrible mail-birth-with-IV-however-inserted-in-my-writing-hand-handwriting).

Even with my poor writing skills, we still had lots of people compliment us on this door hanger, so maybe it wasn't besides bad subsequently all. ;)
